The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) "Wildlife Services" kills an average of 31 beavers a year in New Mexico alone and over the last decade has killed nearly 230,000 nationwide - due in large part to complaints from farmers.

But beaver are crucial in creating wetlands, maintaining wildlife habitat, controlling flooding and even helping endangered ecosystems adapt to climate change. Numerous species of wildlife rely on the wetlands engineered by busy beaver including river otter, cutthroat trout, leopard frog and the willow flycatcher.
As we build momentum for reestablishing beaver as a climate change adaptation strategy, the federal government cannot be undermining these efforts with a taxpayer funded killing plan.
